The purpose of the band is to represent the long and proud history of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America, the Rev. William J. Shanahan (Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 1, Manchester, NH) and the Irish people through the preservation and promotion of Celtic music, particularly that of the bagpipes and drums, as well as traditional Celtic arts, culture and heritage. While providing an opportunity and the encouragement of its members to learn and perform such music, the band will perform at community, state, regional and international events to entertain and educate the public in Celtic pipe and drum music and Irish culture.
The band holds two monthly practices at 9:30 AM Sunday at the Rochester American Legion, Post 7, 94 Eastern Ave. Check the calendar page for details. We also have an informal practice every Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at Post 7. So grab your pipes or drum and come on over.
Anyone interested in learning to play the pipes or drums is welcome to attend any of the practices and meet band members. No previous playing experience is necessary. We offer free lessons.
For more information or to book the band, contact Ruthie Smith, Chieftain or Tom Martineau, Pipe Major.
